Firstly published on April 21, 1977, the Book of ‘Kartini Sebuah Biografi’ directly became best seller. First edition was followed by second (1979), third (1981), fourth (1983) and fifth (1986). In 1983 and 1984, this book was translated into Japanese and Dutch.
Many new things about Kartini were exposed in this book. Many people know Kartini only as the figure of female warrior of Emancipation in Indonesia, but this opinion should get changed after reading this biography. Kartini is a bright figure of Indonesian female filling all her life with glorious aspiration and ideas to restore the pride of the nation. Foreign intellectuals studying the letters of Kartini concluded that Kartini had become a pioneer of resurrection of Indonesia much longer before the existence of Budi Utomo. All aspirations and thoughts of Kartini are admitted as source of inspiration of the upheaval of spirit of nationalism in 1908 – four years after her death.
KARTINI SEBUAH BIOGRAFI of sixth edition (2001) is presented in the form of interesting appearance of book, with quality paper, good lay-out, completed with some photos. To pay homage to the merit of the writer who passed away in 1994, in this book, his biography is included in ‘In Memoriam Siti Soemandari Soeroto'.
